Made In Germany: Classic Camcorder Inspired the EASYdoesit x KangaROOS Ultimate ‘VX1000’Release: 28 November 2020
Video may have killed the radio star, but now it has also helped birth a pretty cool sneaker colab. Berlin-based creative agency EASYdoesit have worked with the neighbouring German arm of heritage brand KangaROOS to clip together an inspired remake of the premium Ultimate model. The reference material? Sony’s iconic VX1000 video camera from 1995, which was the first DV format camcorder, and a piece of equipment the EASYdoesit crew spent their formative years using. It was also behind the fisheye lens of countless classic skate videos throughout the mid-90s to 2000s, among other broadcast-quality works.
EASYdoesit pay a pretty hefty homage to this piece of primitive-yet-powerful technology by replicating the black and silver (specifically Jet Black/Steel Grey) externals onto the Ultimate’s suede and mesh upper. Generous lashings of reflective strips line major panels in reference to camera flashes, while the stamped ‘361CCD Digital Zoom 20 X’ text is a subtle nod to the VX1000’s technical specs. EASYdoesit leave their mark on this colab with large branding on the heel counter. Some zesty pops of mint green highlight the outsole for added contrast.
Packaged in a custom co-branded shoebox, the EASYdoesit x KangaROOS Ultimate ‘VX1000’ releases on November 28 at select boutiques like 43einhalb.
