The New Kengo Kuma x ASICS Archisite ORU Is Bullet Proof
When we think of architects in sneaker design, one obvious answer pops up (); however, another architect is increasingly making his mark on the sneakersphere with unique and beautifully structured designs: Kengo Kuma. The Japanese creative has forged a strong relationship with over the past fives years, with numerous releases including a special edition of the . The most recent addition to Kuma’s sneaker portfolio comes in the form of an Archisite ORU that has been altered to incorporate Yatara weaving and Dyneema.
The design marks the first time Dyneema material is used on the upper of an ASICS shoe, and the fibre laminate material creates a flexible and versatile structure. Kuma said about the design, ‘We created shoes that wrap around Yatara knitted sandals using Dyneema, which has a gentle sheer feel similar to Japanese paper. After tucking in the outer skin and taking a walk around your destination, you can unfold the outer skin and relax inside the hotel...this is the kind of shoe that changes the outer skin to suit the various life situations required by a new lifestyle.’
Dyneema doesn’t just look and feel good, but it’s also commonly used for ballistic protection… in other words, are the new ASICS Archisite ORUs bulletproof???
To top it all off, the sole has been taken from a trail shoe, the FUJI LITE 2, whereas the FF BLAST midsole provides a bouncy rebound and lightweight comfort. When combined, the shoe is literally ready for anything: muddy roads, dirt paths, construction sites, urban roads, and of course, bullets.
