Update January 31, 2022: JJJJound and BAPE have announced an official release date for their co-created BAPE STA and its matching apparel. All three pieces will hit the JJJJound web store come February 5, so ready yourself for the drop and check out more info below!
JJJJound are rounding off a tremendous 2021 with a fully unexpected final colab, as they've teamed with BAPE to craft a minimalistic take on the BAPE STA. The Montreal-based brand are known for minimalistic designs and high-quality materials, so the partnership with BAPE – who are centred around bold camo patterns, loud colours and in-your-face graphic embellishments – brings two vastly divergent entities together in a compelling fashion.
One of the most low-key BAPE STAs we've ever seen, JJJJound's BAPE STA is made of premium white tumbled leather and adorned by soft grey embellishments, the most notable of which is the signature star logo on the midfoot. Other details of note include circular rope laces in place of the BAPE STA's standard flat laces, the absence of a lace deubre and a metal top eyelet. The shoes also come packaged in a greyscale BAPE camo box that's stamped with a golden-brown JJJJound logo.
Justin Saunders and his team's take on the BAPE STA is a vast departure from the wild hues, shimmering patent leather and over-the-top ornamentation that made it so famous in the first place. Instead, it falls more in line with one-off colabs like the KITH x BAPE 'Fiegsta', a one-off colab from 2016 with tonal colour schemes and made-in-Portugal construction. However, JJJJound prides itself on elevating classics, so it's clear they hold the BAPE STA (and its lasting influence on hip-hop culture) in high regard!
Currently, no release date has been announced. However, JJJJound's Instagram caption hints at a spring/summer 2022 drop.
