The Nike Air Huarache is having a fantastic year so far, and it’s about to get even better. 2021 marks the 30th anniversary of the Tinker Hatfield classic, and Nike have already rolled out the retro carpet for the resurrection of some old favourites. Up next are two colourways from the Huarache’s sophomore releases in 1992 – the ‘Magenta’ and ‘Orca’ – and JD Sports Australia is the prime location to pick up these pairs.
First, a quick history lesson. Nike debuted the Air Huarache in 1991, but the following year was when the distinct circular tongue logo was introduced. And what better colourway to show off this new trademark than the ‘Magenta’? The Hua’s Dynamic Fit stretch bootie is lit up in the scorching purple-pink shade, paired to a period-correct neon yellow rear quarter. Long-time Hua heads should also be well acquainted with the immense comfort of the Air sole.
Meanwhile, other collectors will be eagerly awaiting the ‘Orca’, a striking two-toned rendition that makes its re-entry a mere 29 years since its first release. With Nike’s tweaks under the Huarache’s bonnet this year, there’ll be some trouble telling the retro apart from the OG – and that’s about the highest praise that can be given for this clean black and white edition.
But wait, that’s not all! The venerable ‘Triple Black’ colourway that shrouded the feet of sneakerheads in shadowy shaded neoprene and nylon during the Team Cozy era is also making a return. Furthermore, sizing is extended – or rather, shrunken – down to kids’ sizes, so sneakerheads-in-training can get started with both blacked-out and pink-dabbed takes on a true Nike classic.
