adidas Skateboarding brought back the Adimatic – a perfectly puffy skate shoe from 1996 – earlier this year, and now they're expanding its range as team rider Jamal Smith has received a signature colourway. Smith skates for adidas, Palace and Nocturnal, and is most known for his signature 'Tornado Spin.' On his Adimatic, he pays homage to 1990s skate culture, his early days in the Philly skate scene and his love of hip-hop.

Dressed in a black, orange and gum colour scheme that nods to Smith's hometown Philadelphia Flyers and Love Park, a famed Philly skate spot that kickstarted the careers of everyone from Smith himself to Josh Kalis and Jimmy Gorecki, the Adimatic by Jamal Smith boasts a full suede upper, various textured details on its midsole and a special tongue logo. Smith is also a big hip-hop fan, so his shoe is a salute to the sample loops often found in hip-hop production.

From a performance standpoint, the adidas Adimatic by Jamal Smith is loaded with protective tech. The gum outsole is made of an abrasion-resistant rubber compound, the upper's suede is reinforced for extra durability and an Ortholite sockliner enhances the comfort.

'I’m insanely grateful to be a part of the Three Stripes family. I never thought I'd get the opportunity to work with adidas [on a pro model],' says Jamal Smith. “The Adimatic launch makes me feel a mixture of emotions – I’m extremely appreciative and dumbfounded. It means the world to me. Definitely going to be skating this model for a minute and I hope the rest of the world enjoys it, too.'

Expect the adidas Adimatic by Jamal Smith to release via the adidas webstore and select skate shops on May 14. It'll be priced at $100.
