Update February 5, 2024: While we only got our first look at the upcoming Jacquemus x Nike colab very recently, the designer has since taken to Instagram stories to give us a closer look at his upcoming Air Max 1. Much like his recent Air Force 1 colabs, the Jacquemus x Air Max 1 ‘86 sees the silhouette come with a few design details, including edits to the midsole. While previous images clearly showed off a large rectangular Air Bubble on the lateral side, this latest look shows that the medial sides have had a very different treatment, with one foot featuring a tiny square and the other featuring a small circle. The designer also teased a release date, noting that the pairs will be available in June, before the Olympics.

Update January 29, 2024: Last year, rumours of Jacquemus reimagining Nike's iconic Air Max 1 surfaced. Now, the first images of the upcoming colab have arrived.

The Air Max 1 '86 is set to land in two colourways: white and metallic silver. The classic upper has been reworked with edgier design elements such as a squared toe box and quilted sock liner. Meanwhile, the overlays have been removed, giving the silhouette a more minimal look. Differentiating the two iterations is the perforated lateral of the white pair, but both variations will come with co-branded hangtags.

Air-heads were appeased when Nike first announced the return of the Big Bubble for Air Max Day 2023 in the form of the Air Max 1 ‘86. The iteration features a larger midsole Air unit and was first debuted back in 1986; however, it was short lived due to major cracking in the midsole. Once a mythical silhouette is now a sneakersphere reality, and the Swoosh aren’t holding back on the new releases. They’re coming in hot, first with a potential return of the ‘Powerwall BRS’ and now with the rumour of a collaboration between Nike and Jacquemus.

The French fashion designer is no stranger to Nike colabs, with the most recent project being an orange version of the Nike JF1. It released in October and sold out almost immediately. Before this, Jacquemus partnered up with the Swoosh on the Air Humara for two sleek tonal iterations, as well as a Barbie-licious edition. There’s no hints or imagery as to what the AM-1 ‘86 is going to look like, but based on Jacquemus’s style and previous colabs, it’s sure to be smooth, tasteful, and luxurious.

There’s been no word from Nike or Jacquemus of a colab on the Air Max 1 ‘86, although it is expected to release in the latter-half of 2024. Stay locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates.
