It Feels Like 1997 Again in the Nike Air Total Max UptempoRelease: 14 September 2021
There is more to Nike’s 1990s basketball catalogue than Jordans and Foamposites. And the Swoosh is keen to remind new-gen sneakerheads of this fact with an expanding line of retro reissues from that golden era, such as the Air Total Max Uptempo, which will also keep the OGs happy.
The Air Total Max Uptempo originally released in 1997 – occasionally popping up as a seasonal release over the years – and was one of the more domineering models in the Uptempo category. Succeeding well-known siblings such as the Air More Uptempo, the Air Total Max Uptempo crammed even more features into an already formidable sneaker.
As per the Uptempo ethos, this model balanced the precarious space between lightweight and strong, thanks to a durable leather upper and full-length Air Max sole. However, it was still mobile enough for nimble players. Almost 25 years since its debut, the Air Total Max Uptempo could probably still hold its own on court – though it won’t necessarily give the more senior sneakerheads the same handles they had back in ’97!
Nonetheless, the OG white and metallic ‘Midnight Navy’ colourway, plus its polished chrome-effect heel plate, will transport wearers back to that classic era of Nike Basketball. And they can do so now, as the Air Total Max Uptempo is available direct from Nike.
