Introducing The Sperry 7 Seas Collection
Back in 1935, Paul Sperry dreamt of inventing shoes that would stop him falling off his yacht and into the ocean. With the Canvas CVO, Sperry’s original boat shoe design became part of footwear folklore. Previously, we’ve looked back at the brand’s unique nautical history – but this time it’s all about the future. Sperry’s pioneering spirit is still very much alive and it has firmly placed them on the cutting edge of one of the world’s toughest endurance sports. Enjoy this preview of the new fall ‘7 Seas’ collection, available in July. It’s a bold statement of innovation with plenty of surprises. Are you ready to take the plunge?
The 7 Seas Pro is the flagship of the Sperry footwear fleet. Designed in partnership with America’s Cup athletes for the rigours of elite competition, it’s the most advanced sailing shoe ever made. The stakes in this international race are crazy high, and crews demand tough equipment that can withstand a lot more than a light ocean spray. The new catamaran-style boats are ludicrously fast, capable of reaching speeds in excess of 50 miles per hour, so on-board traction is paramount for racers who scuttle across netting to keep the boat moving. The shoes also feature an ingenious network of drainage channels that exit water instantly if you do end up drenched. ORACLE Team USA and Softbank Team Japan can rest assured they have the best equipment on their feet when they contest the upcoming America’s Cup. And if you love aggressive logos and bold branding, the 7 Seas Pro will definitely hit the spot!
Of course, only a hardcore few will ever guide a hydrofoiling catamaran at such a ferocious pace. Luckily for the rest of us, Sperry has several lifestyle alternatives in the new line-up. The 7 Seas Carbon has a 360° lacing system that echoes the Sperry Authentic Original. Knit construction and an Ariaprene booty are the epitome of contemporary footwear trends. The 7 Seas Cage is perfect for anyone with a penchant for exploration. It’s packed full of functional features, including a hydrophobic rubberised forefoot and some serious scaffolding to keep your feet stable.
The jewel in the aquatic crown is the 7 Seas Deck Boot. This high-cut hunter is fully loaded with features. From the fleece-lined rubber toe to ripstop panelling and seamless construction, it’s a true tech-beast that will keep your feet happy in all conditions. SeaBound cushioning will soothe your soles on the toughest terrain, while the signature wave-siped pattern will keep feet glued to the slipperiest surfaces.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Sperry, it’s not to settle for any old port in a storm. The new 7 Seas collection will keep your feet firmly planted when Poseidon calls – they’re at their best in the wet and that’s all you need to know!
