When ohw? first piqued our attention we were surprised – the brand is polished, the vision is clear and the quality is exceptional. How does a brand like this pop up out of nowhere? The truth is, it doesn’t. We dug a little deeper and discovered that ohw? (pronounced ‘who’) is a shared venture between two of the industry’s old hats; after years of experience they’ve taken the leap to give us their new approach to functional, contemporary footwear .
When ohw? pulled the trigger on production, they already had their own factory and access to premium materials from around the world. The UK based brand allows their designs to walk the line between fashion and traditional craft – each style focuses on artisanal details, such as hand stitching. The combination of fine leather and suede combined with tech materials such as hypoallergenic Ariaprene – not to mention their combination rubber and Phylon soles – create a comfortable shoe with optimum fit.
The brand experienced huge success recently with their collaborative model for UK rapper Scroobius Pip. Now they’ve shifted up a gear with their latest ‘Autumn/Winter 16’ collection containing six different ranges that cover retro sport, contemporary classic, trainer inspired styles, functional outdoor and advanced performance. The collection uses waxy suede, full grain leather and neoprene to produce the supremely comfortable styles – making sure they’re durable enough to take whatever the daily grind might throw at them.
Of all six ranges, the highlights for us would have to be Glide and Reflection. In the Reflection range, ohw? have taken on the luxury sneaker market with style. The Blaze is our pick of the bunch – the combination of the one piece toe section, elastic sides that wrap around its sock-like upper, speckled sole and those leather pull tabs make it the embodiment of everything that gets our juices flowing. Each model in the range features an exaggerated IMEVA sole unit, that’s the top of the line in injection moulded EVA, while they conceal an Ariaprene sock-liner on the inside.
The Glide range, made up of comfy cupsole styles, offers more stripped back silhouettes, complete with hand stitched detailing and plenty of padding in all the right places. A mix of both high and low-cut styles provides a bunch of options if you’re looking for some retro styled sneakers – each of the court-shoe styles emphasising their fine materials and solid construction through simple, clean colour blocking. The Deacon model is the epitome of a sophisticated sneaker, its full grain leather upper is peppered with little details that give it just the right kind of understated personality – you could wear them every day and never get sick of them.
At ohw? they believe so strongly in their craftsmanship that each and every pair is individually signed by the person responsible for the final quality check. The commitment to exceptional quality extends to every area of the brand, so you know you’re always getting the best.
