Hummel HIVE Bring Back the Minneapolis OG
Danish brand Hummel have been making sneakers since 1923, so their Hummel (arc)HIVE project allows them to bring back some pretty interesting silhouettes. This time around, the Danes are taking it back to the 80s, retro-ing their Minneapolis OG model.
The Minneapolis was originally inspired by the developments in basketball shoes that the company saw occurring in the United States. During the 1980s, there was a huge surge of interest in all things Americana in Scandinavia but, unfortunately, there were no locally produced shoes to match the Danes' growing interest in the NBA. This is where Hummel stepped in, creating their first ever basketball shoe (in the decades prior to this, the brand had been producing shoes for football, handball and running).
The re-release of the Minneapolis OG sees the brand retain the aesthetic of 80s basketball shoes but, in keeping with the reputation of Scandinavian design, they've made sure this updated model is decked out in premium quality materials. The sneaker sports a long heel counter and quarter overlay panels, meshing together premium leather and suede detailing. The mid-cut silhouette boasts a classic rubber outsole and an EVA mid-cup sole.
The Hummel Minneapolis OG is available now at select retailers across Europe: check their website for information on stockists.
