Splash Around in the Hanon x Mizuno Contender

Hanon are continuing their ongoing partnership with Mizuno in 2023! Over the past couple of years, both brands have linked up to bring co-created pieces to the sneakers and streetwear scenes, including both footwear and apparel. In 2020, they came together to deliver the whiskey-inspired Sky Medal. Then in 2021, they reprised their partnership by coming together with J. League team Nagoya Grampus on a capsule that paid homage to the club’s 1993 jersey.

Now, they’re finally set to release the Hanon x Mizuno Contender! Keen-eyed onlookers will recall originally having seen the colab on-foot almost two years ago. A long time coming and decked out with detail, the grampus dolphin is actually what inspired the makeup of the shoe, in particular, its unique ‘scored’ markings, which appear on the animal over a period of time. Calling this out, the Hanon x Mizuno Contender features subtle grey markings applied to the nubuck toe cap and heel. Below this, you’ll find silver mesh underlays contrasted with teal suede overlays and pebbled leather on the tongue and heel. The upper is finished with a pearlescent light teal leather Runbird.
