Has it really been six years since the adidas NMD_R1 was unleashed onto the world? While its very beginnings started with more of a whimper than a roar, the NMD soon gained overwhelming momentum and become an ubiquitous item on both feet and feeds alike. For months on end, sneakerheads, resellers and normies snapped up every single NMD colourway that dropped. And the colour that started it all in December 2015 is now coming back.

It still feels somewhat strange to call something that only released barely more than half a decade ago ‘OG’, but given adidas have actually reissued this colourway a couple of times already, the 2015 edition does earn that distinction. Fast forwarding back to 2021, to see the black mesh upper, BOOST midsoles, and red and blue midsole blocks is something of a warm, comforting hug for the feet. And it certainly is the case, as the NMD was embraced and ultimately successful because of its unmatched comfort. The colourway was also particularly easy to wear, and remains the definitive NMD palette.

The adidas NMD_R1 OG will re-release on June 1. While it likely won’t reach the same pitch fever levels of fervour as it used to, it’s almost worthwhile buying a pair – just for old times’ sake.
