For Sale! Nike Mag Signed by Michael J. Fox

Nike Mag Michael J Fox Signed Sotheby's

There are sneaker Grails, and then there are Holy Grails. The Nike Mag (2011) no doubt belongs to the latter, the mythological sneaker this week set to burn holes in wallets as Sotheby’s auction a pair signed by none other than Michael J. Fox.

Belonging to Sotheby’s very own ‘The Future is Back’ lot, Nike only released 1500 pairs of the Nike Mag back in 2011, with sales benefitting the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Of course inspired by Marty McFly’s power-lacing Nike Mags worn in Back to the Future Part II (1989), the retro-futurist shoe still forms an important part of sneaker lore to this day.

The Nike Mag also went on to spawn numerous contemporary basketball iterations, including the Nike Adapt and the Adapt BB 2.0.

The pair will be on public view in the Sotheby’s sneaker pop up at FUSEDSPACE (1401 16th Street) in San Francisco, alongside a selection of other rare sneakers (including Jeff Staple’s Pigeon Dunk).

The auction will take place from September 14 to September 23. The sale price is expected to land anywhere between $30,000 and $50,000.
