First Look: Nike Dunk Low ‘Rooted in Peace’
The eye-watering resurgence of the Nike Dunk continues to define the sneaker industry in the early stages of 2021, the 1980s hardwood classic still getting plenty of attention from sneakerheads. While high-profile collaborations continue to rule the roost (recent Nike partnerships with Off-White and UNDERCOVER have again elevated the classic Dunk to new cultural highs), GRs have still been aplenty, with Halloween leaks, ‘Crimson Tint’ and ‘University Blue’ renditions keeping our release calendars very busy. Now, the Swoosh are paying homage to Japanese gardening, the ‘Rooted in Peace’ colourway designed to highlight inner peace and contemplation.
Manufactured in largely denim and suede, the Dunk Low presents denim on the toe boxes, quarters and panels (the denim is given extra depth by its black dye). Light tan suede overlays give some contrast, while cream-coloured laces and Swooshes further offset the darker denim tones. Interestingly, Sashiko-style stitching adorns the quarter paneling and rear. The colourway is completed with jade green accents on the tongues and heels, while a debossed peace sign furthers the aesthetic intention of the design.
The Dunk also comes with a set of pins and a bandana extending the Japanese gardening theme. The special box reads ‘Rooted In Peace,’ ‘Positive Energy,’ ‘For The Body, For The Mind, For The Earth,’ and ‘庭師ダンク’, which translates to ‘Gardener Dunk.’
Look for the Nike Dunk Low ‘Rooted in Peace’ to drop in Asia during May 2021.
