Event Recap: Street Superior Brings the Heat in Singapore
Street Superior brought extreme heat to Singapore over the weekend, the premier streetwear and sneaker festival dialling things up yet again. From the brains behind Sole Superior (an event dating back to 2012), Street Superior continues to expand in 2019, the upsized edition taking place across two days and five levels at Scape Singapore.
On Level 1, we saw a marketplace featuring streetwear stalwarts Pasar Peninsula, Novelship, Konstrkt Labs and exclusive merch from local lads Island Boys Collective. One of the dopest drops? Sydney-based The Kickz Stand linked up with Indonesian outfit Cosmonauts Space Wear for a limited edition t-shirt stuffed with a cassette tape, sticker pack and psychedelic box design! For those looking to expand their toy collection, Level 5 offered a slew of eclectic options curated by studio Flabslab. Big Big Con is the first time we’ve seen toys enter the fray at Street Superior, the showcase featuring Singapore artists Pobbler Toys, Whale Rabbit, and talented artists from across the region including Kong Adri and Creon. Big Big Con also featured some incredibly rare vintage toys – original Star Wars moulds, anyone?
Street Superior also offered a range of custom sneaker competitions, with several exhibitions also on display to inspire. The #SSFsoleygrail dialled up the stakes, with a $1,000 cash prize alongside the opportunity to create and exhibit a sneaker collection in 2020! Australia’s own custom artists Chase Shiel and El Sneaker Hefe showed off VeChain–powered sneakers to rival anything on display at the Louvre, while local artists TK Collective, Hypethetic and AKA Lazy showed us all how pretty paint can dry in Singapore’s humidity! ,One of the nastiest exhibitions on display was undoubtedly Benjamin Tan’s incredible collection of Supreme skate decks, featuring 248 works of art by the New York skate label (only three pieces were missing from his Supreme stockpile!)
For those of us feeling lucky, Street Superior also packed in the prize money, a slew of lucky draws totalling an eye–watering $50,000. Whether you pulled a prize or not, everyone went home a winner from this year’s Street Superior, Singapore’s premier streetwear event continuing to show us why they’re superior in 2019.
Catch ya’ll next year!
