A lot of people might not be familiar with Newcastle Upon Tyne, the hometown of Being a premier online retailer, many of their customers have never visited the store and taken in the surrounding areas and gauged what impact their locality may have had. Luckily, END. have teamed up with another UK institution, , to tell the story of the ‘Black Diamond’.

During the 18th century, Northern England was perforated with coal mines. As the steam-powered era of the industrial revolution kicked into gear, demand soared, money was made, canals were dug and eventually railroads were built. The power of coal literally shaped the landscape.

The Clarks Desert Coal ‘Black Diamond’ has a soot-black leather upper, sourced from the Stead Tannery in Leeds, another of the regions industrial centres. The upper utilised both aspects of the bovine leather – the toe and vamp laid down to show the softer sueded side, while the quarters boast the deeply textured grain of the hide’s exterior. The black crepe sole has been lifted off Clarks’ Desert Trek, giving the shoe a wedged midsole and a flat bottom, as opposed to the stacked heel which is traditionally attached to the boot. So you don’t get lost in the darkness, a woven pull-tab on the heel adds a subtle shine to ‘Black Diamond’.

The limited edition END. x Clarks Originals Desert Coal ‘Black Diamond’ will be available from October 15, exclusively through END.
