Update August 25, 2022: The Yeezy Foam Runner 'Sand' is set for a restock! The classic colourway is scheduled for August 26. The model originally debuted in March 2021.
Originally debuting during the Innovation Festival in late 2019, the has routinely sparked debate ever since it hit shelves on June 26, 2020. Recently revealed in the ‘MXT Moon Grey’ colourway, the Foam Runner is now set to release in a more subdued ‘Sand’ colourway, the conservative design looking more like the ‘Ararat’ design that launched the silhouette.
Manufactured by blending harvested algae with adidas EVA materials, the single-piece material design has become a lynchpin of Kanye West’s commitment to a sustainable enterprise.
Whilst constantly being compared to Crocs, the Foam Runner has indeed set up its own vernacular, Kanye originally talking to Joe Rogan to help articulate his vision for the silhouette.
‘So for me, I’m gonna make this shoe be $20,’ Kanye posited. ‘Money isn’t real, so the world should eventually be free.’
Kanye also went on to describe his aversion to hype culture, and Yeezy’s place within it: ‘We talk about hype culture and shoes being sold on the resell market, and Yeezy lives in that place. But I don’t love the idea that some of the reasons why people buy [Yeezys] is just for hype culture.’
The Yeezy Foam Runner ‘Sand’ lands on March 26. A retail price of $75 has been confirmed.
