MSCHF Equip The GOBSTOMPER With a Dremel Power Tool

When it comes to disruptive and experimental sneakers, MSCHF take the cake by merging performance art with practical jokes in their endless pursuit to push the ‘I wouldn’t have thought of that!’ envelope. Earlier this year, the Brooklyn collective’s ‘ Big Boot’ series raised the stakes of rogue shoe designs, and they followed it with their Reebok Pump Omni Zone 4, which had an equal dash of weirdness and subtlety. Now for their latest project, they’ve teamed up with Dremel – yes, the power tool brand – for the Dremel x MSCHF Gobstomper, which encourages wearers to beat up their kicks with an included power drill.

For the colab, they’ve given the Gobstomper quite a literal DIY makeover, teaming up with the brand responsible for their power tool of choice to tweak the kicks. A key feature of the original Gobstomper was its multi-layered colour palette that would be revealed as the shoe wore and scuffed down. Many fans of the shoes wouldn't necessarily wait for the shoe to break apart. Instead they'd scrape and chip away for their own unique design.

MSCHF actually recommended the Dremel as their tool of choice to make such refinements, so they’ve gone all-in on this recommendation by partnering with Dremel to provide buyers with their very own tool for modifications. Owners of the limited edition Gobstompers are encouraged to grind down the shoe, revealing those Gobstopper-esque layers in a merging of the sneaker, art, and DIY worlds.

The sneaker itself is a classic silhouette armoured in sail and black accented by royal blue on the tongue and outsole. The MSCHF logo hits the heel tab and midsole, and it comes packaged in a custom Dremel tool box.

The Dremel x MSCHF Gobstomper will be exclusively available on MSCHF.com for $350 and is due for release on November 28.
