Dover Street Market and New Balance Celebrate 40 Years of Flimby With a Special 991 Colab

Dover Street Market x New Balance 991

New Balance's famed Flimby factory in the UK has been cranking out high-quality kicks since 1982, so to celebrate its 40th anniversary the brand have teamed with Dover Street Market for a special take on the 991. One of Flimby's signature products, the 991 is almost always made in the UK, so it's a fitting choice for an anniversary silhouette!

As is par for the course on Dover Street Market's New Balance colabs, the changes made to the model are small but tasteful. Most of the upper retains its signature grey hue, but select pieces like the tongue, heel tab and toebox overlay feature an earthy cream tone for an aged aesthetic – a possible abstract nod to the milstone anniversary the shoe was created for. This ethos is continued on the ABZORB midsole, which supplies some two-tone embellishment of its own.

More literal salutes to the 40th anniversary of Flimby can be found on the insole and the rear of the tongue. The former boasts a special '1982-2022' text graphic, while the latter is split between a 40th anniversary hit on the left shoe and a DSM logo on the right shoe. More DSM branding is worked into the throat overlay and the left shoe's heel window.

Flimby fanitics and DSM devotees alike can expect the Dover Street Market x New Balance 991 to hit Dover Street Market shops and webstores worldwide on April 14. They're priced at £210 GBP, which translates to roughly $273 in US dollars.
