The SF is the next generation of the Uptown. The high-reaching silhouette, equipped with fastenings and ‘Espionage Tongue Storage’ released in lock-step with the rise of functionally fashionable sneakers in 2016, and has been in high demand ever since.

Looking at the shoe (and recent releases like the drop), it wouldn't be hard to imagine that Nike looked to military garb for inspiration. But, in their latest ‘Behind the Design’ feature, the Swoosh barons have revealed that shoe was actually a seasonally driven update that merged their two most iconic shoes for winter.

Brought to life by Nike Sportswear footwear designer Ben Kirschner, the shoe was informed by people who took advantage of the AF-1’s robust build and wore it in inclement conditions. To help them get the best out of the sneaker, Kirschner whipped up a version that included elements from the and anchored it with a crepe sole. The look of the shoe changed through the development stages, but the tenets of the idea remained – blessing us with a tactically urban sneaker that’s as useful as it is stylish.
