Converse Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Trio of Topo Chico Designs
Cinco de Mayo is approaching fast! The annual holiday takes place on May 5 to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, and this year, have joined forces with Topo Chico, a Mexican mineral water brand, and Victor Quinonez (@marka27), a Mexican American street artist, to create three pairs of sneakers that capture the essence of the day.
Two of the three pairs are the iconic models, one high top and low top. The high top takes on a smooth beige base, with a mixture of screen printed and embroidered graphics scattered along the back side of the shoe. The colours and graphics have been designed by Quinonez to replicate the branding of the Topo Chico bottles, and the outsole brings this image altogether, as it is the same translucent green colour as the glassware used for the mineral water. The Low Top Chuck Taylor takes on the same graphic design cues, but with a black base. It also features ‘Qué Sabrosa!’ on the lateral heel, which translates to ‘How Tasty!’
The Topo Chico x Quinonez design also hits the Converse , albeit with a more pared back approach. The iteration has a white leather base complemented by beige overlays and black accents. The star of the show is of course the bright yellow collar, but other features also talk to the theme like the dashes of red and another ‘Qué Sabrosa!’, this time on the forefoot tag.
All three pairs are set to drop on May 2 via Converse. Hit the links below to cop.
