Converse and Rick Owens Power Up the TURBOWPN
Fresh from the eye-catching release of their late last month, and are back at it again, this time unveiling the TURBOWPN. Adopting the same bulked-up aesthetic as that earlier Chuck 70, this release reimagines the Converse – another popular retro baller.
Bringing the decidedly old school Weapon well into the 21st Century, the most obvious design feature of the TURBOWPN is its super chunky sole unit. Delivered here in a creamy tone, the midsole contrasts sharply against the black premium cowhide leather upper, arguably making its exaggerated size stand out even more – if that’s possible! Elsewhere, the collaborative creation is confirmed with prominent co-branding on the tongue for Owens’ DRKSHDW diffusion line.
As for what has inspired the design language behind the TURBOWPN, Owens said, ‘When I discovered how powerful just oversizing something a little bit was, which I’ve done with a lot of my clothes, that became one of my tools’.
