Comme des Garçons Bring Back the Nike Eagle for the First Time

Japan’s Comme des Garcons have touched just about every aspect of fashion and lifestyle with their expansive eye for detail and collaboration. Their BLACK sub-label, often the catalyst for an expansive list of co-opted efforts with Nike, has been instrumental in reviving obscure archival models. This track record continues with the return of the Eagle runner, one of the Swoosh’s earliest designs, which has been brought back for the very first time since its circa 1980 debut.

The Eagle was a racing flat that seemed to come and go in catalogues about as quickly as it did on the tarmac. The microfibre and nylon uppers are back, and so are the staggered eyelets on the eyestays. On the sides, the Swooshes are appropriately sized and, on the topic of proportions, the foam wedge midsoles are still low-profile. The herringbone midsole is also accurately fine-toothed.

Of course, being a CDG BLACK colab means this Eagle is dipped in all black. To evoke This Is Spinal Tap, ‘How much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.’ There is a singular bit of contrast via the white, orange and black tongue label, plus the CDG logo stamped into the heels. Also, being a CDG colab means this release will only go down in-store at CDG locations in Japan and Dover Street Market on March 18.
