Update August 25, 2022: After six months of waiting, official images of the Comme des Garçons x Nike Air Max 97 have arrived! This is big news for fans of the avant-garde brand, as this confirms the release. A drop shouldn’t be too far away, so stay locked for more updates.

Masters of broadcasting niche silhouettes to a mainstream audience, Japan’s fashion soothsayers Comme des Garçons are also adept at leveraging legacy models, the latest CDG x Nike Air Max 97 a testament to their enduring design principles.

Debuting during CDG’s AW22 show, the duo of Air Max 97s are replete with Rei Kawakubo’s inimitable design vernacular, both colourways opting for a distressed leather construction that gives the collaborations an aged aesthetic. In fact, at first glance, the models almost look like a suede remix.

Elevated by the use of mesh underlays, the CDG x Air Max 97 again comes in CDG’s signature mix of monochrome palettes, the grey and black colourways elevating Christian Tresser’s original design blueprints. Nike branding is, of course, in its obvious places, but we’re yet to see where the CDG branding features.

Belonging to CDG’s AW22 collection, we’re not expecting to see these hit retailers until later this year.

In the meantime, make sure to check out our interview with hoops photographer Anthony Geathers, who shot CDG’s latest Foamposite campaign in NYC! And hit the link below to check out all the latest Air Max 97s available via Nike’s webstore.
