Nike’s ongoing Dunk releases have largely consisted of reliable two-toned colourways that draw on the original collegiate editions of the ‘Be True to Your School’ collection from the mid 1980s. This upcoming ‘Championship Red’ scheme is no different to the infallible formula, but it does switch up the shades for an interesting finish.

Considering that most Dunk drops in the past two years have featured white leather underlays and contrasting colour overlays, this edition with its inverted palette is certainly striking. In fact, its white and ‘Championship Red’ combo is reminiscent of the ‘Ultraman’ colourway from the late-90s ‘City Attack’ co.jp pack, which also famously flipped conventional colour-blocking. However, that’s as far as the similarities go, as the crisp white and different shade of red make this Dunk an entity of its own.

The tonal nylon tongue with white trim is a nice touch, and the woven label follows the same colour combo as the rest of the shoe. There is a subtle addition of a third colour – ‘Total Orange’ – on the insole logo print. Everything sits atop a plain white rubber midsole and matching red outsoles.

The Nike Dunk Low ‘Championship Red’ will release on Nike SNKRS on September 16.
