‘Coconut Milk’ has been poured onto the  Nike  Air Max 97, as Beaverton unveil yet another cork-inspired design. Dressed in a tonal scheme that features ‘Coconut Milk’, ‘Lite Sienna’, and ‘Sesame’, this AM97 is blessed with cork hits on the outsole, and a single line around that signature wavy upper.

This is the latest in a growing collection of Nike silhouettes featuring the impermeable buoyant material best known as cork. Among this year’s highlights have been a darker Air Max 97, a pink-hued Air Max  95, an earth-toned AM95, a creamy Air Max 90, a denimesque AM95, and an  ‘Obsidian’ AM90. Like all of those stablemates, this latest AM97 rocks a large embroidered image of the cork plant to really drive home the organic theme.

While many believe that the Air Max 97’s signature aesthetic was inspired by a Japanese bullet train, the mind behind the design, Christian Tresser, says the layered uppers represent ripples of water in a pond. Regardless of which version you choose to believe, the Air Max 97 sure has left an indelible mark on the sneakersphere.

Pairs of this ‘Coconut Milk’ flavoured and cork-inspired Air Max 97 are expected to hit Nike and selected Swoosh stockists on April 29.
