Hot on the heels of the lenticular x , Edison Chen’s imprint are back with another beguiling collaboration, this time tapping high-flying
Highlighting the importance of jade in Chinese culture – a mineral symbolising beauty, protection, power and eternity – the Air Jordan 5 Low ‘Jade’ is sure to transfix all those who gaze upon it.
Abraded, not carved, jade stones are notoriously difficult to work with, and require a lifetime to master. For this reason, the echoes with His Airness are obvious, Jordan’s legendary work ethic a signature element of his craft. Known for their commitment to bridging East and West, both the jade stone and Michael Jordan represent attaining mastery through unwavering perseverance.
Manufactured in textures and colours recalling Chinese jade ornaments adorning traditional attire, the model will debut in special black satin uppers, reflective tongues, and jade-inspired details throughout the design. Illuminated in glow-in-the-dark detailing, MJ's number 23 comes embroidered in Chinese characters at the rear, which is then further emphasised by jade beads that are arranged into twos and threes on the lace stay.
Traditionally believed to be imbued with powers of protection and luck, jade adornments were also accompanied by red strings, a thematic notion extended to the model’s reflective red laces, sockliners, and co-branded insoles.
CLOT and Jordan Brand have also created a capsule collection that will launch alongside the sneaker, t-shirt, hoodie and sweatpants all featuring elements inspired by traditional Chinese jade accessories.
The CLOT x Air Jordan 5 Low ‘Jade’ and capsule collection are set to launch on 14 May 2022 at select locations worldwide and online. A Hong Kong Tai Kwun Popup will support an early access raffle from May 7 – May 12 (in person raffle and pickup). A general raffle will run through the JUICE app from May 10 – May 12.
