There's no denying that the most talked about model from French luxury fashion brand Celine's new footwear collection has taken inspiration from a sneaker classic. Bearing a similar beefy white midsole to the Air Force 1, the calfskin upper is also arranged in a similar panelling construction and there's a very familiar angle collar strap too. There's three colours, caramel, tan and chocolate and they're all just for the little foots and ladies. So, what does it all mean, Basil? Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci used the AF1 as the canvas for his debut Nike collaboration, and there's no doubt Tisci's contemporaries are keeping tabs on what he's doing, but putting a shoe together takes a bit of time so maybe this is more of a coincidence. Either way, it means the AF1 is clearly a silhouette that appeals to high fashion designers as having a lot of potential. While the Nike OG version has never really left the streets as a standard classic, it has undoubtedly lost some of its lustre as a coveted shoe, could all this activity around it change that? We'll have to wait and see. You can buy the Celine Calfskin Sneaker from Celine stockists.
