Update March 30, 2022: Alongside the Blondey x adidas A.B. Gazelle Slate/Gum dropping on April 2 via the CONFIRMED app – there will also be a Miner Blue/Core Black/Silver pair. The release date for the latter is April 20 via Blondey's THAMES MMXX – followed by a wider release through adidas on April 22.
When skater, designer, model and devotee of beans on toast Blondey revealed his A.B. Gazelle Super colab with adidas Skateboarding back in January, he described it as a 'bastard child born of a cantankerous four-way between a Gazelle Indoor, an Indoor Super, a Wensley, and, naturally, a Blondey Superstar.' Now, with the model set for a retail release and an official set of images surfacing, we have a clearer look at just what he meant.
McCoy's special take on the Gazelle is a nod to British terrace culture, one that mixes traditional European sportswear with a dash of high-end flair. Its black upper, extremely trim in shape, is built of heavy-gauge ripstop that's overlaid with high-gloss nubuck on its T-toe, midfoot stripes and eyestays. His name also replaces the standard adidas hit that would be seen on the midfoot.
The detailing doesn't stop though, as down below the Gazelle's standard midsole is discarded in favour of a gum rubber iteration that's pulled from the Indoor Super. An all-surface traction pattern lends itself well to the rigours of skateboarding, and a rubber insole with Superstar-inspired tread rounds off the look.
Subscribers to the THAMES MMXX email list can pre-order a pair of the Blondey x adidas A.B. Gazelle now, though if they're not based in Britain the exchange rate jacks the price up to $148, almost $60 over the shoe's standard $90 MSRP. They'll also land on the THAMES MMXX webstore March 30. If you'd rather wait for an adidas drop, you can expect 'em to hit the Three Stripes' webstore on April 2.
