Ultimate Urban Utility: BAL x mita sneakers x ASICS GEL-Lyte III GORE-TEX
A big three-way collaboration is coming in the form of the BAL x x , transforming the split-tongued sneaker into the ultimate urban foot vehicle. At a glance, these GL3s may seem unassuming, but there are some rather interesting features beneath the bonnet.
Firstly, there’s GORE-TEX lining the insides of the shoes that’s ‘guaranteed to keep you dry’. This also means there’s a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating the upper to bead off any stray liquids. GTX isn’t new to the ASICS GEL-Lyte III, but this pair takes the waterproofing to the next level. Take a closer look at the split tongue – it can be zipped up the middle edges, and there’s also ‘AquaGuard’-style seam sealing to really keep water out. This is certainly a bespoke feature unique to this colab.
The remainder of the upper is pretty low-key in its greyscale and black colourway, but a set of red bungee-style laces is included for an appropriate pop of colour. All is sat atop the reliable GEL sole that’s remained unchanged for over 30 years.
The BAL x mita sneakers x ASICS GEL-Lyte III GORE-TEX will release on February 11 from BAL, mita sneakers and selected ASICS retailers. A global release will follow on February 18.
