The keeps popping up in quality GR colourways this year, with the latest offering a neat white and baby blue combo. Following the unveiling of three , this lighter scheme delivers something a little more understated. The 550 late last year thanks to a sweet colab, quickly becoming a popular model within the NB catalogue.
Speaking to Sneaker Freaker last year about the rediscovery of the 550, NB’s senior manager of global collaborations at New Balance, , said that ALD’s found a random picture of the silhouette and took a liking to it.
According to Grondin, ‘The only information we could find about it [the 550] was from an old New Balance Japan catalogue. We were lucky, because the Japan catalogues are super detailed. We started researching hashtags on Instagram and found this collector who had a pair. Once we got the shoe in-hand we built it from scratch with Teddy. He’s so particular about shape, so everything took us at least eight to 10 revisions. We were adjusting millimetres here and there just to get it right.’
