Global Release Details: Awake NY x ASICS GEL-Kayano Trainer 21Release: 10 December 2021

Update (December 6, 2021): After an Art Basel-exclusive drop that saw 100 per cent of proceeds go to charity and an Awake NY webstore release with 20 per cent of proceeds going to charity, the Awake NY x ASICS GEL-Kayano Trainer 21 is set for a global release on December 10 in both colourways.
Awake NY founder Angelo Baque was one of many who was devastated by Virgil Abloh's passing. Baque, the former brand director of Supreme, was a close friend of Abloh's for many years – the two ,spoke on panels and worked together on Baque's 'Social Studies' initiative – and Abloh could frequently be spotted in Awake NY gear as well.
Now, in tribute to Abloh, Awake NY has announced that it'll donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from its latest ASICS colab to his 'POST-MODERN' scholarship fund, an organization whose mission is to 'foster equity and inclusion within the fashion industry by providing scholarships to students of academic promise of Black, African-American, or African descent', and Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc., an organization that focuses on angiosarcoma research and awareness.
Essentially a GEL-Kayano runner with a one-piece upper and an upgraded exoskeleton that provides greater lateral support for cross-training, the Awake NY x ASICS GEL-Kayano Trainer 21 has been presented in two colours: a Miami Dolphins-esque mixture of aqua, orange, silver and grey and a more muted grey and silver mixture with just a pop of color on the heel. Both are embellished with special Awake NY branded hits and placed atop a full-foot GEL cushioning setup.
The first of these two colourways is exceptionally fitting, as Awake NY is set to release the colab during Art Basel Miami, dropping it exclusively at UNKNWN from 5 PM-7 PM on December 2. The shoes will also be accompanied by a small capsule of clothing created with record label NEON16. Information on a global release is forthcoming, but we'll likely see both colourways hit the Awake NY and ASICS webstores before the year is out.
