‘University Blue’ has been quite a persistent colour story in recent months for Jordan Brand, and with good reason. The legend of the OG Chicago Bulls livery of white, black and red has been ingrained into the wider consciousness for over 35 years via retro reissues and contemporary homages. Now, it’s time to expand the mythology into pre-Bulls era. And this is where the Air Jordan 4 ‘University Blue’ comes in.
Three decades on from its debut, the AJ4 is still a fan-favourite, providing an effective conduit for exciting colours that still express some OG flavours. Suede uppers are a rebellious shift from catalogue specs, but this deviation is well received in its ‘University Blue’ finish. The classic cement midsole inserts are an example of how to ‘do the right thing’ – in fact, the whole base has been faithfully lifted from the ‘White Cement’ OG. As are the upper lace ‘wings’ and heel tab that are finished in the same speckle.
