Another New Balance 992 Showcases Spinnex Recycled TextileRelease: 2 September 2021
Since its revival in 2020, the New Balance 992 has steered ever so slightly away from its flagship performance origins to a highly functional daily street sweeper. In light of how sneakers can lessen their considerable impact on the environment, NB have reworked the 992 to be as friendly to the earth as it is to feet, without losing any of its premium edge.
They’ve achieved this thanks to the use of Spinnex, a special recycled polyester mix that’s 30 per cent textile waste. It’s been used on the 992 before, and this new edition follows a similar execution, replacing the mesh inserts on the toe box, mid panel, and rear quarter. Spinnex tends to have a marle-like finish, which certainly helps connote the cozy impressions that the 992 is lauded for. Elsewhere is true to the sneaker’s script, with finely brushed white suede making up the rest of the upper, met by grey underlays and reflective silver tabs. Of course, the very reputable ABZORB SBS midsole system remains, delivering unparalleled comfort and support, 15 years since its use on the 992. Elsewhere, sunny yellow hits on the sole help to add some brightness.
This new 992 is available now in women’s sizing directly from New Balance.
