The Air Jordan 9 Boot Is Ready for the Elements

The Air Jordan 9 marks a historical milestone in the Jordan Brand story, as the first signature model to be released during His Airness’ first retirement. In the almost three decades since, the AJ9 has become something of a staple for those sneakerheads not quite willing to swap their Jays for winter boots. Now, they can get the best of both worlds as JB have created the Air Jordan 9 Boot, bolstered with cold-weather-ready features.

The AJ9’s signature mudguard has always lent itself to elemental resistance, and it becomes even more durable here with a rubberised texture. And thanks to the relatively tall midsole, water ingress is near impossible. Meanwhile, a lugged gum rubber outsole with variable tread patterns across different locations ensures maximum grip crossing slushy streets.

Up top is a similarly hardcore hardware set. Black suede uppers increase the warmth and are treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating. The standard lace loops are substituted with considerably more heavy-duty metal D-rings borrowed from traditional boot designs. And hiding beneath the surface is a gusset connecting the tongue to eyestays, helping to keep water and debris out.

The Air Jordan 9 Boot will see a Nike SNKRS release on November 25.
