UPDATE: If you were foolish enough to sleep on the 'Black Metallic' Air Jordan 5 release over the weekend, then count your blessings. BSTN has still got a sprinkling of pairs left in assorted sizes. If you need any further indication as to why you should jump on this this release, just scroll through the on-foot shots.

There are retros and then there are retros. While once upon a time the label unequivocally meant ‘one-to-one reissue’, nowadays the term is used more loosely. Sometimes it can seem like the design version of Chinese whispers, where each copy of a copy deviates a fraction further from the original mould. Sometimes though, you get a remake of a sneaker that looks it’s been pulled straight from a decades old catalogue – just like this Air Jordan 5.

While you can find the 'Black/Metallic' with the Retro tag thrown on them on the reseller market, it’s likely that they date back to 2007. This reissue comes with the OG 'Nike Air' heel branding that adorned the original, and that's what's going to impress the diehard collectors. This retro harks back to a halcyon era for both basketball and basketball shoes making, this AJ5 is a must for any self-respecting Jordan fan.

The 2016 (and the truest in a hot minute) reissue of the Air Jordan 5 'Black/Metallic' will be releasing through  Nike online on July 23.
