The Air Jordan 5 ‘Grape’ Bursts Back Onto the Scene in 2025
It may have only just turned June, but next year's sneaker release rumours are well and truly underway. Among one of the silhouettes in focus is (rather unsurprisingly) the , which is gearing up to celebrate its 35th anniversary next year. The -designed 1990 silhouette is expected to return in some of its OG colourways, and the Air Jordan 5 ‘Grape’ is currently expected to lead the charge.
The Air Jordan 5 was built to complement Jordan’s ferocious playing style. Hatfield likened it to a WWII fighter plane and decked out the silhouette with shark tooth-like sole details, reflective tongues and extra secure lace locks. The 1990 release saw the ‘Grape’ pair release alongside three other colourways, which in usual Jordan style embraced black, red and white colour palettes. The ‘Grape’ colourway stood out thanks to the vibrant purple and turquoise hues used instead. The pair then featured on one of Jordan’s Wheaties Box shoots, and had their own cameo moment in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, on the feet of Will Smith.
The ‘Grape’ AJ5 was later released as a retro in 2006 and 2013, and while we’re yet to see images of the 2025 pair current rumours have them pegged as being as close to the original pairs as possible. This is expected to include Nike Air heel tabs and vintage packaging. Needless to say, we’re still a few months out from the expected release, so make sure to stay locked to Sneaker Freaker for more images and info as it comes in.
