The Air Jordan 5 originally released in 1990 in four OG colourways that included the ‘Black Metallic’. The fan-favourite iteration is now set to retro for the sixth time next year, which happens to be the AJ5's 35th anniversary.

According to the source, the 2025 Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Metallic’ won’t join the ‘Remastered’ series, so it won’t have any new materials or faux-aged details. Instead, it’s been said that this upcoming retro will stay true to the past releases, arriving in the classic scheme with a nubuck upper, silver reflective tongue, speckled shark teeth and Nike Air branding.

While the Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Metallic’ launched as an OG clourway in 1990, there was also a Michael Jordan Player Exclusive pair that did the rounds. Ever since the OG release, the ‘Black Metallic’ relaunched in 2000 with the Nike Air branding, and then again later in 2007 and 2011 with Jumpman branding and a 23 logo on the rear heel similar to the 90s PE version. The most recent retro occurred in 2016, which is pictured above.

So far, Jordan Brand haven’t announced their plans for the 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan 5 just yet, but we think a ‘Black Metallic’ retro could fit the bill. Stay locked to Sneaker Freaker to keep updated.
