Since debuting during Michael Jordan’s third season in the 1987/1988 NBA season, the Air Jordan 3 had many signature moments in MJ’s storied career. In arguably his best statistical season, Jordan won both MVP and Defensive Player of the Year and put on a show at NBA All-Star as he won the ‘88 Dunk Contest and All-Star Game MVP. The Air Jordan 3 was front and centre that season, and thanks to its unique and memorable look, it’s still a sneaker we want more of in 2024. Not only that, but it was the sneaker that convinced Michael Jordan from leaving Nike, so it doesn’t get any more classic than that.

While the Air Jordan 3 has seen hundreds of colourways, new and OG, general release or limited collaborations, the common denominator is how adaptable and multifaceted the design is. The ‘Midnight Navy’ colourway at JD Sports exemplifies this versatility, taking on the colour blocking from the ‘Fire Red’ iteration but with a more subdued and subtle shade. The design features a crisp white base with the ‘Midnight Navy’ getting hits on the tongue branding, eyelets, and accenting on the midsole and heel. The subtle hero of the iteration, however, is the signature elephant print seen on the toecap and heel, bringing in that crucial element that captured MJ’s attention all those years ago.

The Air Jordan 3 ‘Midnight Navy’ will drop at JD Sports on January 22, so save the date to add a classic Air Jordan 3 to the rotation.
