Air Jordan 17+ (Copper)
For most Air Jordan collectors out there, the line's golden era ended the moment Jordan made his legendary 'last shot' in a pair of blacked-out AJ14s, securing the '98 Finals over the Jazz in the process. While that may have been his last shot with the Bulls, it wasn't the last time MJ would take to the court. After a few years of absence, Jordan returned to the game in 2001 to play a brief stint with the Wizards, rocking the Air Jordan 17 – and later the Air Jordan 18. As the second-to-last Jordan model to be worn on court by His Airness, and a damn good playing shoe to boot, the Air Jordan 17 holds a special place in the heart of many Jordan-diehards.
Despite this love, Jordan Brand have been pretty lax with the retros, only resurrecting the AJ17 once in the past 14 years with 2008's AJ6/17 Countdown Pack. After a long wait, JB have finally come good and are bringing the model back to store shelves for real. Only two colourways have been confirmed at this stage, but one of those two is undeniably one of the best from the OG run – the AJ17+ 'Copper'. The 17+ ditched the (wholly unnecessary) lace shroud of the standard 17 and upped the quality of materials, with copper accents and a croc skin wrap around the heel and tongue. All of these details have been replicated in this upcoming remastered release, although it does come at a pretty hefty price point – USD $250. Despite the moolah, for those AJ17 fans out there (this writer included), it's a small price to pay to see this classic back in stores. Now bring back the College Blues!
The Air Jordan 17+ 'Copper' will be available from selected Jordan Brand stockists on April 9th.
