The Air Jordan 12 'Playoffs' Tips Off at JD SportsRelease: 24 April 2022
When you're discussing the greatest Jordan Brand sneakers of all time, especially the ones Michael Jordan wore after his first retirement, you've got to mention the Air Jordan 12 'Playoffs.' This year, the 'Playoffs' is celebrating its 25th anniversary and is back in all its original glory! Following a earlier stateside release, it's finally hitting Australian soil.
The 'Playoffs' first saw the light of day alongside the Air Jordan 12 'Flu Game' in the 1997 NBA Playoffs, as Michael Jordan and the Bulls rolled through the Washington Bullets, Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat before downing the Utah Jazz four games to two to secure the 1997 NBA Championship. Though MJ had the above-mentioned 'Flu Game' on for his memorable performance in Game 5 of the Finals, where he overcame dehydration and exhaustion to hit the Jazz for 38 points, he was wearing the 'Playoffs' when he hit the game-winner in Game 1 of the Finals and when he found an open Steve Kerr with five seconds remaining in Game 6 to clinch the series.
Oftentimes, when the Air Jordan 12 'Playoffs' is discussed, the conversation rightly revolves around MJ's postseason heroics while wearing them. The look's often discussed too, and for good reason: the 'Playoffs' combination of leathers both tumbled and pebbled in white and black shades – all equipped with familiar branded hits – is quite an attention-grabber! However, they're loaded with some pretty serious tech as well. The AJ 12 was the first Air Jordan to feature a full-foot Zoom Air unit, and a midfoot carbon fibre plate adds rigidity and support.
If you're looking to rock a pair of 'Playoffs' during this year's NBA Playoffs and beyond in Australia, you can expect a full family size run to hit JD Sports on April 24. Game on!
