If you're unfamiliar with the man behind the eponymous Stan Smith, you aren't the only one. To shed some light on the tennis icon that is Stan Smith himself, and the classic Three Stripes shoe he inspired, adidas have partnered with Rizzoli to release Stan Smith: Some People Think I'm a Shoe. The cheekily titled tome takes an in-depth look at the global cultural impact Smith's signature kicks have had since their introduction in the early '70s and celebrates the ubiquity of the timeless silhouette.
'This book is one of the most inspirational projects that we have brought to life,' says adi's Alegra O'Hare. 'Working with Stan Smith is both an honor and privilege. He’s more than just a tennis legend, embodying all of the values of sports and sports culture, but has created with adidas legendary sneakers that transcend across all ages and cultures, and spark stories that will last forever.',
'It's incredible to me that my name holds such recognition beyond the sports world,' adds Smith. 'Many young people are unaware of my tennis career, but they love the shoe. My relationship with adidas has brought me into different worlds and cultures in a way no other brand could.'
Some People Think I'm a Shoe is available now directly from Rizzoli.
