adidas Spezial: Hand-Burg
adidas hosted a major retrospective under the SPEZIAL banner last year, showcasing over 800 pairs of shoes supplied by UK collectors in London. Curated by Gary Aspden and Mike Chetcuti, SPEZIAL was such a success, they’ve buttered up for round two, heading north to Manchester as part of Design Week in mid-October. Upping the ante, they’ve also assembled an adidas Originals x SPEZIAL capsule collection of premium leisure wear and trainers that will hit the street later this year.
The all-white leather upper is inspired by a Japanese pair of Handball SPEZIAL that Gary picked up in Tokyo in 1999. The upper is complemented by a rich cream inner lining and is married up with the sole unit of the much-loved Hamburg. Finally, the toe was slimmed down and the shoe is signed-off with a gloss SPEZIAL stamp and tongue patch.
