Acronym X NikeLAB Air Force 1 Downtown
UPDATE: If you were one of the lucky ones to snag a pair of the ACRONYM x Nike Air Force 1 Downtowns from the series of surprise drops this week, then you have no doubt taken the opportunity to truly appreciate the multitude of tweaks to the humble (former) Uptown. From the perforation-free toe-box to the zigzag stitching on the Swoosh, each aspect of the silhouette has been finely-tuned with utilitarian features and innovative textiles – the most obvious being the quick-release German mil-spec fastener.
Nike have gone ahead and uploaded a fresh batch of photos to their website, showing the trio both in studio and out on the streets. While no mention of a wider release is made, we can only hope this is more than a flex from the Swoosh.
UPDATE: Following a mysterious tease by ACRONYM co-founder Errolson Hugh last week, the brand's Air Force 1 Downtown colab has officially been released. In true ACRONYM fashion, the drop came without warning via the brand's online store and swiftly sold out. However, there is another chance to get your hands on this trio – provided you live in New York.
Joining a long list of surprise Swoosh colabs dropping this week, the ACRONYM x NikeLAB Air Force 1 Downtown will be available through 21 Mercer in SoHo on February 8, going on sale at 6pm. There's no word of a worldwide release at this stage, but keep your fingers crossed.
As a side note, it seems the double strap mechanism on this colab is so complicated that a set of technical instructions have been provided on how to get the shoes on!
ACRONYM's Nike Air Presto collaboration was almost universally praised as one of the best sneaker releases of 2016 – taking out the top spot on many 'best of' lists. Now, to follow up on their stellar colab, the brand look set to release their next project with the Swoosh. ACRONYM co-founder Errolson Hugh posted a trio of sketches to his Instagram account of a sky-high buckled Air Force 1. The silhouette updates the AF-1 with a calf-high cut that pales in height only to Riccardo Tisci's insane Uptown colab. In typical ACRONYM style, the shoes are equipped with ankle buckles and medial side zippers for easy wear.
Die-hard fans of the brand will recognise these sketches of the ACRONYM x Air Force 1 Downtown as those that first leaked all the way back in 2015. Samples of all three colourways depicted in the sketches eventually found their way out into the public, with reports that some pairs even made their way to outlets on sly and are available right now on the resale market.
While a release of the ACRONYM x Nike Air Force 1 Downtown is not yet officially confirmed, you can count on us keeping you updated on any developments.
