The New Balance 550 colourway count increases by one this weekend as a multicoloured edition is scheduled to drop. Because it was previously seen a few weeks ago, astute followers of the model will be locked and loaded on various NB portals, ready for the release. For the more casual observers of this rising retro basketball shoe, here’s a quick recap.

Known as the BB 550, this is a low-cut hoop model from the late 1980s that has underscored the heritage credentials of NB’s court offerings. The 550 was revived by way of the ongoing Aime Leon Dore collaboration series, and those coveted drops have been complemented by almost two dozen general release colourways, which are now just as coveted as the colabs. This new multicoloured scheme follows a similar convention to last week’s options, albeit with a more varied palette.

The official colourway of ‘Oak Leaf Green’ and ‘Deep Sky’ downplays how much is actually going on with these 550s. Green and navy are already accounted for, but there are also appearances from red and yellow on key areas – including the N logo, heel clip, and embroidered branding. Which is all set against a white leather upper featuring a perforated mudguard and mesh tongues and ankle collars. All of the accent colours harmoniously collide on the rubber outsole, with contrast heel and toe caps. Nice.
