Late last year, consolidated its running line into three distinct pillars: , , and . Within each model are three tiers: the ‘Icon’, ‘Plus’, and ‘Premium’. The Pegasus has already completed its metamorphosis, and every iteration is currently available. Now, Nike is turning its attention to the Vomero.

The dropped recently, and we just got our first official look at the Vomero Plus. Nike’s strategy is focused on streamlining product lines, aiming to help put the Swoosh on the feet of more runners. With the Vomero Plus, suspicions about which runners might be the target audience are rumbling their way throughout the running world – but here are the facts confirmed about this new model.

The quandary faced by running shoe designers is revolves around solving the tension between maintaining a lightweight structure, and providing as much cushioning as possible. The Vomero line focuses specifically on maximum cushion, thus it tends to neglect the competing issue of the shoes' weight. However the Plus model delivers an engineered mesh upper that keeps weight down and breathability up.

The wavy textile pattern woven throughout the upper provides a canvas for countless imaginative colourways – but it's the midsole where the set-up truly becomes a Plus. It embodies the ‘rocker’ style with which so many of Nike’s competitors have gained footing, flowing from heel to toe in an ergonomic line designed to provide impact protection throughout the ride. The ZoomX stamp on the heel indicates what lies inside the midfoot: Nike's lightest and most responsive foam. While the ZoomX appears to sit full-length through the Plus, Nike has not yet released the tech specs, so it's unknown if ReactX or other technologies will be present.

The Vomero Plus is expected sometime mid-year, and while we're still awaiting release details, official images of the first batch of colourways have dropped – and that could indicate that launch day is soon approaching.

Will you put in the miles with the Vomero Plus, or do they fail to win you over? Stay tuned for more updates and release info!
