Nike's Iconic Harajuku Flagship Closes its Doors

Tough news for 'heads today. flagship store in Harajuku, Tokyo – the brand’s largest physical location in – will close permanently on August 8, according to Japanese media outlet .
Designed by Masamichi Katayama, the three-story spot opened way back in 2009 and quickly became a must-visit for collectors and tourists alike. It blended art installations with digital tech, with the first floor dedicated to running gear, while the second and third floors showcased , fitness and offerings. Fully synced with the Swoosh app, shoppers could check stock and pre-order items with a tap – an early example of combining physical retail with digital convenience.
The store’s most iconic feature was its giant shoe wall, made from 1,600 individual soles, as well as a chandelier-style art installation made entirely of various Beaverton models — details that immediately immersed visitors in the brand’s spirit from the moment they stepped inside.
Nike have announced that the Harajuku store will close on August 8 but have not confirmed whether it will relocate or introduce a new concept store in the future.
