New detailed shots of the Loro Piana x NB990v6 have arrived, courtesy of @ yuthanan__. The silhouette has also been confirmed to use Pecora Nera®️ wool in its construction, which is a signature Loro Piana fabric made from the wool of black Merino sheep that have been specially selected and bred over the past 20 years in an effort to restore the breed. Pairs officially drop today at selected Loro Piana boutiques.

While the world may have moved on from the trend of ‘quiet luxury’, some brands continue to prove that it’s not just a fad, but a lifestyle. LVMH-owned fine fabric purveyor Loro Piana is one of those, having quietly manufactured ultra-luxe IYKYK staples since they were founded in 1924. Now, they’re linking up with New Balance to drop what's rumoured to be a $1000 sneaker.

Though it’s not immediately clear what justifies the price tag, what we do know is this: the new colab works atop the 990v6, which falls under the banner of NB’s Made in USA line. That means that the sneaker will have been domestically manufactured using premium materials, and from what we see in the existing photos, that looks to be a mixture of mesh and suede. There’s nothing ludicrously capacious about the colour palette either, as the pair comes swathed in muted grey and brown tones, with hints of Loro Piana’s signature burgundy shade for contrast. The luxe label’s branding then hits the tongue tab while a two-toned midsole rests underneath.

At this point, it’s not too clear whether Loro Piana have made some material contribution or just worked on the colourway and branding, but stay tuned for more info on that. Pairs are also rumoured to be made to order, but limited to just 1000 units, with it being reported that some of Loro Piana’s VIP customers have been offered pairs already. Current info suggests the pre-order will be available from September 5 via Loro Piana boutiques.
