LaMelo Ball’s New PUMA MB.05 Just Ate Ziggy Stardust
LaMelo Ball’s fifth signature sneaker with PUMA just kicked things into overdrive. At first glance, the MB.05 looks like someone blitzed Ziggy Stardust with a bag of Skittles. Shimmering in purple and pink, it clearly channels LaMelo’s flamboyant flair both on and off the hardwood, with sequin details and a criss-crossed midfoot strap only adding to the aesthetic carnage. Of course, we’re also seeing Melo’s ‘1 of 1’ slogan – not really something he needed to point out on this design – and his winged logo, front and centre.

This new chapter builds on the wild ride of the MB.04, which dialled up the intergalactic vibes with alien-like 3D overlays and bold colour blocking. Editions like the ‘Be You’ highlighted LaMelo’s embrace of individuality while retaining a lightweight, bouncy ride for quick guards. The MB.04 also carried a performance edge, featuring a monomesh upper reinforced with TPU support wings, full-length NITRO foam for dynamic energy return, and a high-abrasion outsole for traction – though some players found it grippy to a fault on dusty courts. As for the MB.05? PUMA’s keeping the tech specs close to the chest, but expect similar bells and whistles under the hood.
Since signing with PUMA in 2020, LaMelo has become the face of the brand’s basketball reboot. Stepping away from the embattled Big Baller Brand to ink a reported nine-figure deal (rumoured to be around $100 million), Melo’s partnership with PUMA has been a statement from day one. His debut MB.01 was a breakout success, and each instalment since has delivered eye-popping colourways, custom detailing, and a healthy dose of Melo mythology.
As always, keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for updates – and maybe bring your sunnies if you're planning to stare directly at the MB.05.
