It's about time. After plenty of rumours, pushbacks and speculation, we might just be getting our first look at the 2025 Air Jordan 3 'Black Cat'. The fresh images have come in via well-known leaker and collector @, and they show the pair to be a pretty accurate retro right down to the elephant print laces. The former source has even chimed in with a release date, with pairs now expected to land on January 11. Nothing has been confirmed by Jordan Brand yet, so make sure to stay locked for more info as it comes in!
There are plenty of iconic Jordan Brand colourways, and they almost always pay homage to a part of Michael Jordan’s storied legacy. There is ‘UNC’, which looks to Jordan’s time in college, ‘Shattered Backboard’ which remembers the fabled backboard-shattering dunk, OG ‘Chicago’ and, of course, ‘Black Cat’. The latter iteration has now been rumoured to return once again, this time donning the Air Jordan 3.
The term ‘Black Cat’ has been applied to a plethora of Jordan Brand’s most coveted models, but that doesn’t just signify a sneaker’s ‘Triple Black’ look. ‘Black Cat’ was a nickname that only Michal Jordan's closest friends called him due to his smooth and stealthy movements on the court. Unknowingly, Tinker Hatfield had also come to the same conclusion when watching MJ play, as he reminded the designer of a 'powerful predatory cat', and he used this as inspiration to create the Air Jordan 13, simply calling it the 'Black Cat'. When Tinker presented it to MJ, the basketball legend asked 'How did you know that?'
Jordan Brand dropped the first-ever Air Jordan 3 ‘Black Cat’ way back in 2007, and rumours have now emerged from reliable sources and that this pair will return in 2025. You can expect this upcoming pair to look similar to the OG, boasting a full-black build with nubuck upper, patent leather strip, and elephant print overlays. This hasn’t been confirmed by Beaverton as of yet, so we don’t have any imagery of the 2025 pair; however, we do hope Jordan Brand keep the elephant print laces on the retro.
